Over 44 years’ experience leading or working within successful cost planning, cost management and work winning teams. Covering rail, non-rail infrastructure and building services projects such as the Jubilee Line Extension, St Pancras International Station Upgrade, Crossrail Systemwide Projects, HV & Traction Power Projects, National Electrification Programme (NEP) as well as numerous major stations and depots both in the UK and abroad. Dealing with building services, tunnel ventilation, signalling, overhead line electrification, low and high voltage electrification.
I pride myself on my calm, methodical and flexible approach, influencing peers and colleagues whilst leading or working within teams in both pre-contract as well as the construction phase of projects.
My involvement has included cost planning, setting and managing client budgets during the pre-construction phase. Bid and tendering management, responsible for managing resources, challenging costs and programmes, ensuring estimates are produced in an accurate and timely manner within the company processes and management systems. Procurement of major plant and sub-contracts post contract award. Forecasting costs, trend and risk reporting, cost control and monitoring management during the construction phase.
Projects & Engineering
I have a track record of leading/working within successful bid and tendering teams. My responsibilities have included resourcing, managing, challenging and ensuring estimates capex, opex and whole life costs are produced in an accurate & timely manner by the team. Confirming that all aspects of the work complies with client processes and systems and that the work is in line with the appropriate client quality management systems. Liaising with designers both internal and external, manage relationships with external sub-contractors and construction partners, reviewing quotations both technically and commercially. I have experience in producing KPI’s, collection of historical data, resource programmes, pre-qualification packages, pre-tender analysis documentation, tender prelim calculations, cash flows, labour rate calculations and method statements.
With my experience in winning work on many major tenders I have continued to be involved during the design and construction phases to carry out cost management on projects involving the production of forecasts, weekly and monthly reporting to identify the commercial and construction issues on the project and presenting them to the client. Management of trends, risk and opportunities on projects. Assessing and making commercial recommendations regarding the procurement of sub-contractors and suppliers. Managing site preliminaries and labour cost accounts. Managing pricing and assessing the impact of compensation events, project managers instructions and early warning notices. Working with planning departments to cost load programmes including re-baselining, measuring the cost performance index verses the scheduled performance index (budgeted verses actual costs) and reporting commercially the status of the project with regards to budgets, cost and time.
