I am an innovative project, programme and PMO expert with a passion for service delivery and continuous improvement. I am able to deliver strategic analysis, sound business planning and make an immediate impact in programme and operational delivery. I combine technical and operational expertise with outstanding interpersonal skills to ensure stakeholder buy-in whenever necessary. I firmly believe in organisational excellence, a well-planned strategy and continuous improvement.

I have extensive global commercial experience gained from delivering high value projects in IT, telecoms, networks and mobile computing technologies. More recently, I have been able to apply my expertise in the rail industry where I improved the operational efficiency of the Great Western Electrification Programme and subsequently applied the same learning to electrification works in Wales.

Experience:

Railway Operations

Assisted Amey Rail in improving the operational efficiency of the High Output Plant System (HOPS), a £42M purpose-built factory train for the installation of foundations, masts, struts, booms, SPS and wiring.  HOPS was not meeting delivery expectations or the Network Rail business case in the Great Western Electrification Programme.  Subsequently supported Balfour Beatty in Wales by building on the lessons learned in OLE England and applying them to conventional operations in OLE Wales.

  • Produced a Process Map which brought together strategy, planning, design, materials provision and construction around a common timeline with buy in from Network Rail and its main contractors.
  • Re-designed the Readiness Review process so that strategy, design and access were aligned well in advance of construction which enabled the optimisation of resources and improved delivery.
  • Introduced a set of HOPS KPIs to measure the utilisation, load factor and delivery performance of each consist which, when combined, showed an increase in productivity by 74% over 13 months.
  • Designed and produced a weekly single page visualisation chart to show the out of ground progress for the entire OLE in England and then Wales which aided future planning and remedial activity.

Projects & Engineering

Elevated project control & business governance through scorecard production, KPI definition, financial monitoring, operational & project reviews and headcount analysis (Motorola Solutions).

Investigated root cause of lost margin in network implementation projects and devised an improvement plan which increased margin by $20M over 2 years (Motorola Solutions).

Set up a European PMO in order to regain control over projects and provide resource forecasting for new opportunity business cases and budgeted cost control for projects in delivery (SITA Aero).

Constructed a low risk programme comprising a network audit and proof of concept, testing and pilot phases, the success of which allowed full migration to commence ahead of schedule (BA).

Managed customer expectations through an agreed project structure and jointly owned risk and change management procedures.  Assisted customer in promoting the project to its end users (BA).

Training & Development

Developed tailored training programmes for the introduction of Continuous Improvement (CI) into manufacturing, logistics & services companies (Motorola Inc, Connect Group & BAE Systems).

Trained and mentored over 30 Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Green Belts and Black Belts.  Developed an LSS track specific to a services organisation (Motorola Inc.).

Change Management

Transformed and documented the Bid Estimating process to a common standard across different functions.  Moulded multiple CI activities to support a Right First-Time programme (BAE Systems).

Introduced structured and standardised documentation in the PMO.  Integrated project delivery with continuous improvement and developed a strategy for its introduction (Connect Group).

Restructured the regional services organisation into 3 lines of business (integration, support & value add) to increase efficiency, reduce costs and grow the business (Motorola Inc.).
